Cure for the common cold

Winter is the peak time for getting a cold and feeling lousy. Just as you want to feel your best to enjoy the holiday season you start getting a sore, burning throat. Some studies have shown that regularly taking at least 1 gram of Vitamin C a day or more will reduce the severity and duration of a cold. Others show that taking anywhere from 1 - 6 grams (1,000 to 6,000 milligrams) of Vitamin C a day can reduce the length of a cold by a day, and may help to relieve symptoms such as runny nose and sore throat.

Saturating your tissues with Vitamin C at the first sign of a cold is one natural cure for colds that gets results. Viruses cannot survive inside cells that are high in Vitamin C. Tissue saturation can usually be achieved by taking 3 - 4 grams every 4 hours.

Large doses of Vitamin C can cause loose stools or diarrhea. If this happens just cut back the dose gram by gram until you reach a level that does not cause this.

Zinc is a most important mineral for the function of the immune system. It is worth increasing the dose during an infection. Try 25 - 50 mg a day while you have the infection and 15mg a day as a maintenance dose. Zinc sore throat lozenges are good to suck.

Vitamin A is a key immune boosting nutrient. Take 10,000 -25,000 iu a day for one week only to fight an infection. It can be toxic a high doses long term. Do not take during pregnancy.
